SCHOOL TOURS
REAL CONVERSATIONS ABOUT SELF-WORTH AND SOCIAL MEDIA
We live in a world with access to everything. You can pull up a product, person, or any piece of information. Yet, somehow, we seek connection, now more than ever. As social media use among teens has risen to 95%, so have reports of anxiety and depression.
This Spring, author Summer Nilsson embarked on a Texas School Tour to address self-worth, empathy, and kindness. Summer shared her own experiences regarding social anxiety and imposter syndrome, as well as her background with a 25-year career in national media, marketing, and storytelling.
Through a series of author visits, Summer discussed mental health, social media, and what connection means in a modern world. You never know when you might make a difference in someone’s life. It’s the basic kindness that changes another person’s path.
The Spring 2024 Tour theme was based on real conversations with students, as featured in the “HOO Are You?” pilot video series and podcast. From the Spring 2024 Tour, Summer will release student features throughout the summer.
"I wanted to pull up a chair and talk to students about the power of their words. The Loodor Tales follows Grey the Kitten on her journey to discover who she is and how she can help others. I used characters from the book series as a baseline from which to establish dialogue and pose the question, HOO Are You? Grey represents the balance of becoming your best self while striving to achieve collective success. Words can build things or break them. Therein lies the magic of our voice." - Summer Nilsson
